"Fast" Brackets (A system is available)

    There are orthodontic bracket systems that claim to be faster.  This is supported if that refers to the time needed to change an orthodontic arch wire; however treatment times themselves do not seem affected.

 The brackets are more expensive and the bone physiology is not modified by the bracket. When a force is applied to a tooth, the crown will move first; this allows quick alignment.  To provide a biting force through the long axis/length of a tooth, the root must be under the crown and the root long axis parallel to the bite force.   A tooth root moves through bone and bone displays a genetically determined ability to model.

                                                                       Wilckodontics

There is a system that will overcome the bone biology.  Wilckodontics requires a surgical procedure to decorticate (make holes or troughs in the thick cortical bone around teeth) which is believed to cause a Regional Accelatory Phenomenon (RAP).  During the RAP, the bone remodeling rate is increased and allows an increase the rate of tooth movement; theoretically the risk of root resorption would be less (67% of the risk of root resorption is the genetic contribution of bone physiology). The surgical procedure requires and increased cost and the orthodontic fees are the same as treatment needs do not change but instead are acclerated.
